Ken and his wife, Heather moved to Nederland in 2011 and purchased their current house in the district in September of the same year. They had moved to Nederland because Heather had accepted a job with NCAR in Boulder and luckily, Ken was able to bring his job with the University of Oklahoma here with him. Ken thought his remote opportunity with the Univeristy would only last a year but they just couldn't get rid of a good thing!
He started with Nederland fire on the first day of the 2013 Boulder County floods.
Ken and Heather welcomed their son Forrest in 2014, who is now a Junior Cadet with Nederland Fire's Youth Membership Program.
Fun fact! Ken and Heather were married in Boulder County, on the same day, within hours of another one of NFPD's other volunteer firefighters. Small world!
