EMT - Emergency Medical Technician

Classes will be held in-person at Nederland Fire Station # 1 two nights per week from 18:00-20:00 and one full weekend day 09:00-17:00 for 12 weeks in order to achieve the required 160 hours of training.

You will need to have the following documentation BEFORE applying for EMT school. Applications received that do not have complete documentation will be denied and students must re-apply (spots are not guaranteed).
- Must be 18 years of age, no exceptions.
- Background check - All applicants will be required to pass a background check prior to class acceptance. Background checks are sent via email after applications are received and documentation is considered complete. Backround information must be submitted within five (5) business days or the request will be considered abandoned.
- BLS Provider Certification - BLS FOR HEALTHCARE provider certification. It is imperative that you understand this must be a BLS FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDER certification. (Accepted BLS Provider certifications: AHA, Red Cross, ASHI)
- MMR Proof - Proof of Mumps, Rubella and Rubeola immunity by positive antibody titers or 2 doses of MMR.
- Influenza vaccine - must have a flu vaccine from the current season (students ideally should have had a flu shot no earlier than October 2025)
- Hepatitis B vaccine - Proof of the full series of two or three doses or proof the series has been started within the last 30 days.
- Tdap (tetanus) - Vaccination must have been done within the last 10 years and remain current throughout your time in the course.
- Varicella (chickenpox) - Varicella immunity, by positive history of chickenpox or proof of Varicella immunization. You may also receive a Varicella titer blood test from your primary care physician.
Students are expected to dress in a professional and hygenic manner and each will need to show up wearing and/or in possession of the following:
- Uniform shirt
- EMS Pants
- Station boots
- Watch with second hand
- Safety Glasses
- If necessary students will be provided an N95 mask
This course will be utilizing Navigate Advantage Access for Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured, Twelfth Edition eBook. Students will be provided an access code after completion of the application and payment has been processed and will need to download the book onto the electronic device of their choosing. Those devices will be brought to class each time.
If you would like a hardcopy of the book, you will have to purchase it on your own. Books can be found online through stores such as Walmart, Thriftbooks and American Book Warehouse. Please verify the book you are purchasing is the correct edition and from the same publisher as listed above.
