Division of Fire Prevention & Control provides fire investigation supplies to NFPD

July 2, 2024, Nederland, Colorado.

Nederland Fire was visited by Branch Chief of Investigations, Todd Hedglin, from the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control. Chief Hedglin brought with him a large cache of supplies to help aid Nederland Fire in fire investigations. "This warm gesture is greatly appreciated by Nederland Fire, I can't thank Chief Hedglin enough for his guidance and the changes he's bringing to fire investigations for the state of Colorado," said Fire Marshal Andrew Joslin. Marshal Joslin obtained his Fire Investigation Technician certification from the International Association of Arson Investigators last year and is looking to further his training and experience.

Branch Chief Hedglin is leading the efforts to bolster fire investigations in the state including providing supplies, training, evidence processing, investigators to assist local jurisdictions, and even funding to help departments "loan" their investigators to neighboring districts who need the help. The new Branch of Investigations has provided several trainings this year with topics such as fire scene photography, interviewing and acquiring information, as well as general fire investigation courses and how to use state resources available to local jurisdictions such as the Nederland Fire Protection District.
